I would have to say that apart from the lose it / drop it problem, the Nintendo DS Lite probably represents the best solution for you and your son. There are a lot of great child-focused games for the platform, and it does not rely on your son having to be in front of the TV.

I would have to say that the Nintendo DS Lite is probably the best option in this case. It is not tied to a television and has a wide range of child-focused titles available.

If you're talking game console running through your TV, I would say Nintendo Wii. It has fewer games but several are aimed at younger gamers. Otherwise consider Nintendo DS Lite - under £100 and some great kids games. Its a handheld console though so consider the chances of him dropping it / losing it / breaking it etc. Another alternative is "no games machine at all" - a 7 years old he should be running around playing football, climbing trees etc as well as reading books etc. I'm not sure I would buy a console for someone so young. Consider long-term RSI implications.

Hi Nickie, - I've heard of things like the V-Smile from those V-tech.com chaps, but honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with a Nintendo DS (which is about £99). My boy is 8 and loves the thing. Scarily enough he also likes the Cooking Mama game so I think he may have a "creative streak" in him.. There are hundreds of other games and it's the main handheld console which Nintendo is promoting and creating games for right now.

  • Sonic Rush Adventure Review: Sonic Rush To Ruin A Perfectly Good Game, more like. Retrospectively speaking, 2005's Sonic Rush wasn't the best thing since Jaffa Cakes, as was commonly touted upon its release. But it was still the best Sonic game in ages, and that's because it skimmed out all the extracurricular nonsense that we've grown to associate with Ol' Blue. No interminable minigames. No heat-packing 'Dark Sonic'. Clingy, sycophantic hangers-on kept to a minimum. It was a Sonic game based around going very fast in a number of 2D environments. Genius!
