Philips DVP3980/05

I am after a cheap multi region dvd player with upscaling and am considering the Philips DVP5980. However I have read a review that says that the cheaper DVP3980/05 can be changed to multi region simply by making adjustments to the settings in the menu. This machine is not advertised as multi region anywhere and I was wondering if this was true. I have noticed that on some review sites that the reviews and similar products seem to get mixed up. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

Hey Carol - All the latest Philip's DVD players have the multi-region hack as follows: 1. Turn on the unit 2. Open the loading tray 3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote 4. Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key 5. Enter 138931 6. You will now see the current region code displayed 7. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions 8. Press the "Play" button on the remote The DVP5980 will be able to upscale to better resolutions so might be worth the extra for that?

  • Toshiba HD-EP35 HD DVD Player review Despite one or two minor niggles, this is certainly the de facto leader for the blue laser format on the market today, and the fact that it's offers you outstanding hi-def performance and a superb set of features. If you are one of the DVD die-hards, or simply don’t care having 5.1 analogue outputs and want the best possible DVD performance, then the Toshiba HD-EP35 is an ideal choice. originally on: TrustedReviews D. | Read full review
