Sony cybershot design blended with Canon SLR quality

Can anyone recommend a camera that is as portable as the Sony Cybershot range but with quality approaching that of a Canon SLR?

Aw - really... that's a real shame. I've got a T30 right now it really just can't handle low light very well which is a real bug bear of mine. If I could get something the same size with 7.2 megapixel plus and really easy to take in low light conditions without having to rest it on anything - that would be ideal!

Hi Phil, I'm not sure such a thing exists mate. It's a bit like asking "can anyone recommend a car that has the fuel economy of a 1.0L diesel but the performance of a Ferrari 599 GTB" ie they're a little bit mutually exclusive. Nothing but a dSLR has the same image quality. It's also hard to answer your question further since "Cybershot" is Sony's generic name for "compact digital camera" and varies from the pocket-sized S-series to the postively anorexic T-series. Please post some more detailed info (including budget) and we can have a go at recommending something.

Q & As

  • Going from 300D to 40D, good idea? How is it for astronomy photography?I've been in the market for a new camera body since my 300D's processor fried itself. How does the 40D stack up for the price? Also, I really want to get into astrophotography as well (though I know nothing about astronomy -- so that's also new to me). Is the 40D any good for that? Or should I maybe be scouring eBay for a use 20Da? from: Josh C. | 12 answers
