Unusual but rewarding camera - if it meets your needs

Author:
The Ricoh GR Digital seems to divide opinion - you can find very positive and very negative reviews about it. I've been using my GR Digital for about four months and I can say that it is capable of producing remarkable pictures that wouldn't disgrace a Digital SLR. It has a number of good points including a very good lens, great handling (better than any point-and-shoot camera i've used), rechargable battery plus the ability to use a pair of normal disposable batteries in an emergency and a nice big hi-res LCD screen. The GR Digital is really aimed at professionals and *doesn't* have a zoom lens, instead it has a superb wide-angle lens that's great for landscapes or street photography. It also can be upgraded with some great accessories (at extra cost) such as an external flash gun, a superb optical viewfinder, an adapter for filters, an ultra-wide angle lens adapter and a cable shutter release, amongst others. The camera has an excellent set of operational features ranging from full auto mode, aperture priority, prpgram mode, full manual mode, movie mode and a couple of scene modes. Virually every aspect of the camera can be customised by changing settings and Ricoh has been gaining a good reputation by issuing regular firmware updates that add new features rather than just fix bugs. If you want to see what the Ricoh GR Digital can do then try searching for "Ricoh GR Digital" on one of the popular photo sharing sites to see what other people have been able to do with it - I doubt you'll be disappointed - unless you need a zoom lens!
