We have a Panasonic DMR EZ25 DVD recorder. Can anyone tell me whether this will play region 1 DVDs in UK?

It's only region 2 I'm afraid - Europe and Japan. You "could" buy a remote control that can transmit an unlock code to it that would make it multi-region: http://www.multi-region.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=DMR-EZ25+&x=7&y=11
